It is sad that the world has lost John Kenneth Galbraith, the great Canadian-born economist and leading proponent of progressive, liberal politics. A fine profile of his life is given in great detail on wikipedia. To read this profile log on to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/. Few academics have been able to match his ability to communicate economics to such large audiences or be so actively involved in politics as he was, especially during the Kennedy era. It is with some embarrassment that I have not read his most famous work, The Affluent Society, 1958. However, I have ordered a copy from Amazon and I am hoping to read it very soon.
